2025 Shore League - Leg 1 Aberthaw and Boverton

The East Region this year celebrates 50 years of the shore league. Formerly known as the winter shore league with team of ten fishing a series of 6 matches throughout the winter months. This then developed into 6 matches still with teams of 10 throughout the year. In 2007 league changed to teams of 5 which remains in place to this day.

 

The weather turned out well for the first leg of the 2025 shore league. A moderate southerly wind made it a little challenging on the flooding tide with lots of debris in the water. The fishing was patchy but 62 out of 77 anglers brought fish to the scales, 92kgs in all. Ten species of fish were landed including three different ray species, (thornback, spotted & blonde), dogfish, bull huss, conger eel, pouting, shore, 3 & 5 bearded rockling.

1st was Neath angler Shaun Tucker fishing for Knockout Baits. Shaun weighed 8.36kgs consisting of 2 thornback rays & a conger eel.

2nd was Reel Fishing team member Gary Parsons from Bridgend with 8.19kgs, consisting of 5 conger eels & a rocking. Gary also had the biggest fish of the match a conger eel of 4.825kgs.

3rd was South Wales Matchmen team member Dan Crump from Barry with 5.68kgs consisting of a conger eel, a blonde ray, 2 dog fish & a rockling.

4th was Reel Fishing team member Chris Jones with 4.48kgs consisting of 2 conger eels & a rockling. 

5th was Keens Match team member Chris Jenkins with 4.38kgs consisting of 2 conger eels & 5 rockling.

 

Best rockling specimen went to Matthew Jones fishing for Pinnacle Match Team with a 0.54kg 3 bearded rockling.

 

Most fish pool went to Roy Tapper with 10 fish consisting of 4 conger eels, 3 rockling & 3 pouting.

 

Top Five Teams after the first leg.

 

1st South Wales Match-men with 451fish points & 12 team points.

2nd Reel Fishing with 402.5 fish points &11 team points.

3rd Knockout Baits with 373.5fish points & 10 team points.

4th was Keens Match Team 336 with fish points & 9 team points on weight (10.91kgs).

5th was Steve’s Baits Team with 336 fish points & 8 team Points. (4.995kgs).
