Angling Cymru Sea Anglers East Region Shore League Leg 1 at Aberthaw & Boverton.

The East Region this year celebrates 51 years of the shore league. 
 

The weather turned out a little wet for the first leg of the 2026 shore league with medium swells & initially a light south westerly wind increasing in strength as the tide started to flood. The fishing was patchy but 75 out of 85 anglers brought fish to the scales, totalling 135 kgs in all. 8 species of fish were landed including 2 different ray species (thornback & spotted), dogfish, bull huss, conger eel, pouting, 3 bearded rockling & bass.

1st was Tonyrefail angler Rory Jenkins fishing for Veals Match Team weighing in 11.37 kgs consisting of 8 conger eels & a pouting. Rory also had the heaviest fish of the match a conger eel of 6.38 kgs.

2nd was Cardiff angler Shaun Moore fishing for Angling Ambitions weighing in 9.665 kgs, consisting of 7 conger eels.

​

3rd was Merthyr Tydfil angler Phil Jehu fishing for Knockout Baits weighing in 7.3 kgs consisting, of 4 conger eels.

​

4th was South Wales Matchmen team member Dan Crump from Barry with 6.38 kgs consisting of a 3 conger eels & a thornback ray. 

​

5th was Trehafod angler Adam Morgan fishing for Pinnacle Match Team with 4.95 kgs consisting of 2 conger eels & a rocking.

Best rockling specimen went to Dave Bowering  fishing for the Garry Evans Match Team with a fish of 0.47 kgs.

 

Most fish pool went to Dai Llewellyn with 9 fish consisting of 5 conger eels, 2 rockling & 2 pouting.

1st Knockout Baits with 425 fish points & 15 team points.

2nd Veals Match Team with 406 fish points & 14 team points.

​

3rd Wrigglers Baits with 373 fish points & 13 team points.

​

4th Reel Fishing 352 fish points with 12 team points.

5th was South Wales Matchmen with 328 fish points & 11 team Points.

SWSA OPEN RESULTS AT BIRDS / CARDIFF FORESHORE & PENARTH, 14th DECEMBER 2025

A cracking turn-out today of 81 (anglers, (29 seniors & 2 juniors) with a first  for SWSA with the event being fished over 3 venues. The weather remained pretty good throughout the event with a moderate south westerly wind. Fishing was tough, and the anglers had to work hard for the fish; most of which were caught on the flood & top water, with conger eels & thornback rays being the main catch. Penarth section of the venue marginally out fished Birds/Cardiff Foreshore.

​

Thirty anglers caught fish with 6 different species being caught i.e., Conger/Silver eels, thornback rays, pouting, whiting & 5 bearded rockling totalling 42.8 kgs.

First Place was  Dai Llewellyn with 5.65kg including a conger eel of 4.135kg. Dai also won the Bob Radman Trophy which was presented by Bob (below left), and the heaviest conger pool.

​

2nd place went to Robbie Wall with a weight of 5.49kg which included a fine 4.99kg thornback ray.

Third place with 3.4kg - Alan Wayne Price

Fourth place with 3.355kg - Drew  Abraham

Fifth place with 2.75kg - Kaden Copp

Heaviest Whiting Pool was won by Chris Mather with a whiting of 0.33kg winning him £158 in pool money

First place in the junior category was won by Dan Winter with 0.73kg
