Angling Cymru Sea Anglers East Region Shore League - Leg 5 at Sully & the Bendricks

Practise fishing during the week ahead of the match looked promising with a good few fish being caught. On the day the weather was not pleasant where is rained for most of the day with a fresh westerly wind blowing throughout the match. 68 anglers fished the match of which 54 caught fish, consisting of 8 different species including blonde, small eyed & thornback rays, conger eel, rockling, bass, huss & pouting totalling 196kgs.

2nd Rhydian Edwards fishing for Gwent Don’t Knows with 2 blonde rays a bass for 9.59kgs.

3rd Casey Vaughan fishing for Holton Road with 3 conger eels, 2 thornback rays & a rockling for 9.47kgs.

4th Nigel Putbrace fishing for the South Wales Matchmen with 6 conger eels for 9.08kgs

5th Dorian Harris fishing for Wrigglers Baits with 3 conger eels for 8.10kgs.

Welsh Smooth Hound Festival Llanwit Major 2nd August 2026

Tata SAC hosted the above festival which took place over a 3-mile stretch of local beaches this weekend. A light south easterly wind stayed constant throughout the day with 55 anglers fishing the match, coming from all over Wales & Kent. 8 different species of fish were caught consisting of smooth hound, conger eel, 3 bearded rockling, bull huss, trigger fish, bass & pouting & spotted ray. Fishing was patchy with 33 anglers catching fish totalling 267kgs.

Heaviest smooth hound went to Shaun Tucker from Neath with a hound of 5.61 kgs. Shaun won £250 & the smooth hound cup donated by Simon Davies Carpentry & Fire Protection LTD.

Heaviest conger eel prize of £100 donated by Maria's Llantwit Major Beach Cafe was won by Lee Brimifield fishing for Tata SAC

All top ten Heaviest bag weights received prizes which were funded from the competition entry fees & will receive seamaster points as will the remaining top 20.

In first place with a great bag of 41.14 kgs was Holton Road tackle shop owner was Dan Crump consisting of 12 smooth hounds. Dan won £300. Runner up for the third consecutive year went to Angling Ambitions rod builder Dai Llewellyn from Barry fishing for Holton Road SAC with another cracking bag of 7 smooth hounds for 22.34kgs, Dai won £200. A close third place went to Cardiff SAC angler Joe Arch with 7 smooth hounds for 22.208kgs, Joe won £100. 4th place was Steve Smyth fishing for the Garry Evans Match Team with 6 smooth hounds for 19.57kgs, Steve won £75. 5th Place went to Cardiff SAC member Chris Equall with 5 smooth hounds for 16.59 gs, Chris also won £75. 6th Place was Lee Williams fishing for SWSA with 5 smooth hounds for 15.046kgs again winning £75.
