Marvellous mixed bag earns Ronnie Wilson 2026 north Wales junior coarse championship win
Updated: 1 hour ago
Last Sunday (6th September), we headed north for the second of our Under 18 junior coarse fishing championships for 2026, held at Buckley Trap.
On arrival, it was a joy to see so many youngsters keen and eager to start fishing. Everywhere you looked, they were getting their equipment ready, chatting with each other, and full of excitement for the day ahead. You just knew it was going to be a good day.

We met up with Peter from Buckley, who was running the event. Peter is an unbelievable person who organises everything for the youngsters, supported by his dedicated team.
They have built something truly special for junior anglers in north Wales. The club water itself is a joy to see – well kept, well maintained, and clearly cared for.
We had 20 anglers fishing across the lake, including two top young ladies who also compete across the border.
As we walked around speaking to the youngsters, we were pleasantly surprised by how keen and how experienced many of them already were. Some had clear ideas about how they wanted to fish the day, while others were just starting out on their angling journey, which was equally lovely to see.
The main species caught throughout the day were silver fish, perch, roach, bream, and skimmers, with the odd F1 and carp making an appearance.
At the scales, the winner of the day was young Ronnie Wilson, who had a marvellous mixed bag for a total weight of 21 lb. A fantastic performance – well done, Ronnie.
Second place went to James Rogers with 20 lb 10 oz. Fair play to James: he told us at the start he was targeting bream, and that’s exactly what he caught. He had some lovely slabs in his net.
Third place was young lady Evelyn Newman, who finished with 19 lb 7 oz. She had a lovely mixed bag of bream, silvers, and a couple of carp.
Buckley is a well-established club, and once again Peter and his team made us feel incredibly welcome. They did everything they could to make the day enjoyable for every youngster who took part.
A massive thank you to Buckley, to Peter and his team, and to all the youngsters who made it such an enjoyable day.
