Nigel Evans rolled back the years with a brilliant match-winning performance on day two of the 2026 Coarse European Championships on the Cavan Lakes in Ireland.
Evans, back at the coalface of international fishing after eight years out of the game, produced a storming section win and finished eighth individual overall.

He was part of a six strong Welsh squad also consisting of Lee Edwards, Chris Greensides, Ben Roberts, Sam Cochrane and Richard Hoskins.
The team were steered once again by manager Ben Roberts, assisted by Paul Hughes, and supported by their bankside team.
Overall, the team finished ninth out of 15 competing nations over the two days of competition.

Italy were crowned champions after a quite incredible performance on day one – with just seven penalty spots – and that set the bar a little too high for nearest challengers England, who secured silver.
Germany took bronze, while German Johannes Böhm – the former world champion – was crowned the 2026 individual European champion.
Meanwhile, the Wales squad for this year’s World Coarse Championships has been selected.
Ben Roberts (team manager/angler), Lee Edwards and Nigel Evans are there, along with Ty Woods, Zac Brown and James ‘Marge’ Thomas.
The team will be assisted by Iain Swanson, who will be providing valuable bankside support throughout the championships.
The world championships are being held in Coruche, Portugal, on 5th & 6th September.
