Richie O’Connor bags Over 50s coarse festival title at Eisteddfa and Bron

Last weekend saw the Angling Cymru Over 50s (North) Championship hosted by Eisteddfa Fishery & Cafe and Bron Eifion Fishing Lakes & Lodges.

Fortunately the forecasted weather didn’t materialise and the competitors were fishing in good conditions.

The weekend started with Eisteddfa and Richie O’Connor took the win with 70lb 1oz of carp, mainly on the pellet waggler, from peg 8.

This narrowly pushed Andy Thompson, peg 10, into second please. Andy weighed 42lb, of feeder and margin caught carp, along with 25lbs of skimmers, for a 67lb 7oz total. Andy also won the silvers pool.

Third place went to last year’s winner, Fred Moore, who had a late run of margin caught carp, to weigh 60lb 5oz.

1. Richie O’Connor – 70lb 1oz

2. Andy Thompson – 67lb 7oz

3. Fred Moore – 60lb 5oz

4. Alan Jones – 59lb 13oz

5. Simon Knibbs – 38lb 1oz

6. David Howard – 36lb 7oz

On Sunday it was Bron Eifion’s turn to host the day and hopes were high for slightly better weights, and the anglers were rewarded with that.

Winner, again, was Richie O’Connor, from peg 1 on the dam, with a great weight of 127lb 1oz this was made up of about half of the new stockies and half of the bigger, older, fish.

Second and third also went to the same anglers as the day before, with Andy Thompson just edging out Fred Moore, by 108lb 12oz to 106lb 14oz, but Fred did win the silvers pool with 18lb.

1. Richie O’Connor – 127lb 1oz

2. Andy Thompson – 108lb 12oz

3. Fred Moore – 106lb 14oz

4. David Howard – 99lb 1oz

5. Brian Fitzjohn – 94lb 4oz

6. Andy Warburton – 71lb 2oz

This did mean that the overall top three were easy to work out, but they were joined by David Howard in fourth place.

Overall:

1. Richie O’Connor – 2pts – 197lb 2oz

2. Andy Thompson – 4pts – 176lb 3oz

3. Fred Moore – 6pta – 167ln 3oz

4. David Howard – 10pts – 135lb 8oz

5. Alan Jones – 11pts – 114lb 10oz

6. Brian Fitzjohn – 11pts – 110lb 8oz
