A strong field of 30 sea anglers contested this year’s Shore DragonMania Final which saw west Walian Dorian Harris netting the overall victory.
There was a late change of venue, after some anglers practiced Pwllheli the day before and deemed it unfishable due to the amount of weed in the water.
After meeting at Pwllheli on the morning of the final, and with the wind having not eased, the decision was made to move the match to Abererch, two miles away.
Although a tad rough, there was only a small amount of weed in the surf.
Dorian (Tenby & District) won overall from Zone A with a bag of nine bass to become the new DragonMania champion.

“Really happy with how things have gone today,” he said afterwards.
“After finding out the venue change, it was clear it was going to be a challenging day; fortunately it’s a venue I’ve fished before, so wasn’t a complete unknown.
“Stuck with my game plan and it paid off.”
Six other anglers won zone prizes.
Danny Parker won Zone A with six bass, ahead of runner-up Steve Tucker, who two bream and one bass. Josh Norris was third with a ballan wrasse, corkwing and a bream.

Zone B was won by the overall winner from 2022, Ben Edwards, with a three fish bag consisting of a dogfish, a huss and a small conger.
Runner-up in zone was Scott Busher with four corkwings and a ballan, with Allan Hughes catching one pollack and three corkwings for third place in the zone.

There were many fish caught in both zones, but most failed to make the minimum size of 15cm which were dominated by small wrasse and blennies.
Well done to all of this year’s finalists and congratulations to all who placed.

In what was a slightly expanded format for this year, there were six qualifiers rather than four, with the Angling Cymru Sea Anglers north, east and south west regions hosting two qualifiers each.
A big thank you to Tony Owen from the north region; for pegging the final, as well as running the two qualifiers in the north.
Thank you to Ben Edwards and Dorian Harris for running the qualifiers in the south west.
Thank you to Steve Chadwick for running the qualifiers in the east.
